Breakfast this morning was waffles with strawberries and
whipped cream. We really enjoy eating on the lanai. Strawberries are in season
here now and will be for a couple more months.
I was chatting with a woman at the local market and she told me that her
provider plows up his strawberry plants and then grows cantaloupes.
We drove to Venice which is about 1 ½ hours from Bonita
Springs. It is named after Venice, Italy, and has a distinct Mediterranean ambience with Northern Italian influences.
Alyson especially liked the beach here because she was
able to find lots of conch shells while snorkeling in the water. She
accumulated 20 for herself and gave another person several others. It appeared
to me that this beach is busier than the one at Delnor Wiggins Pass State Park.
We spent some time walking around town after we left the
beach. Alyson spied an ice cream shop and we all agreed that we should get a
snack. I felt like I had stepped back into my childhood. We sat at the counter
on bar stools and watched the soda jerk make our selections. I opted for a malt
while Cordell and Alyson chose sundaes.
We saw interesting statues along the sidewalks.
Before leaving town, we checked out a few geocaches. One was placed at a restored train engine in a park was especially challenging.
Cordell finally found it and pointed Alyson and me in the right area.
We saw a pretty sunset on our drive back to Bonita
Springs.

Mmm those waffles look good - sure wish I had gotten one! ;)

There are LOTS of nice shells to be had over on Sanibel Island too. When Luz first came to us, my friend down there sent her a huge box full of shells that she had found! They were gorgeous - each one - and not a one broken!
I can't wait to wear shorts! :)
