Cabin fever? Most of us have experienced it one time or the other. Our second day of rain here in Bonita Springs and we had condo fever! 

 

Cordell consulted his weather app and believed that there was no rain a little north—maybe the North Fort Myers area. So after I did some laundry, we gathered our things and headed out on a geocaching adventure.

As we drove out of our community, we saw men playing golf in the rain. Cordell remarked that the reason they were doing so is because they didn’t know how to geocache.

 

After driving a half hour from Bonita Springs, we found dry weather.

I saw a man driving a convertible with the top up. I believe he should have received a ticket for indecent non-exposure because I think it should be a crime for someone to ride around in a convertible in southwest Florida and not have the top down!

We had some interesting experiences looking for geocaches today. One of them was placed at a church yard. Nearby was a huge pine tree with an eagle nest at the top. We observed an eagle fly in and out of the nest.

 From the cache information we learned that half of the Bald Eagle population resides in Alaska, with Minnesota, Florida and Wisconsin having the next highest populations in that order. As of 2011, there were at least 83 nests located in Lee County.

We have enjoyed geocaches placed by a man who goes by the name of “Pilot Searcher” because all of his hides are different and very challenging. We were pleasantly surprised when he stopped by another cache where we were searching. He chose the user name “Pilot Searcher” as a result of an experience where he actually went to Austria to search for the remains of a plane that his uncle was in when it crashed during WW II. He eventually located the plane.

We reached a milestone of sorts for our geocaching activity when we made our 800^th find today. We chose to return to one of Pilot Searcher’s caches that we didn’t find when Melli was here with us. We received a hint that enabled us to see what we needed to see.

The rain had stopped when we arrived back at our condo and we had another pretty sunset.
