We were blessed with sun and warm temperatures again
today. We decided to spend as much of the day outside as was possible.
The sign at the entrance of our section of Spring Run is
nicely landscaped.
Shortly after eating breakfast, we began geocaching
with Melli. We had some very interesting adventures today which started at the
first cache we looked for at a beautiful abandoned shopping center. About the
time we were signing the log, a police officer stopped and checked on us. We
were pleased that he knew "all about it" as he responded when we told
him we were geocaching. He explained that he keeps an eye on the premises since
it is all closed. And he sat nearby until we left the area! It is nice to know
that the policemen here are diligent.
We decided to restrict our searches today to caches that
had received several favorites awards because most of the time they are more
interesting, have cleverly crafted containers and/or are particularly hard to
find.
We looked for a long, long time for one that was on a business
building. A man who we think might have been the owner came outside and gave us
a hint three times. Each time he was laughing at us. We felt like idiots! He
even sent us around the corner of the building so he could check on the cache when we told him it must be
missing. Then we felt even worse when he told us that it was where it was supposed
to be. All three of us had passed over it multiple times. We were determined
not to give up, but it was looking pretty bleak for our success. We gave a loud
cheer when we finally found the elusive cache. These old dogs learned a new
lesson this day. School lessons were never this much fun!
We rode by the park again in Old Bonita Springs and we
just had to let Melli see that big old banyan tree. I really like the nearby
sculpture of the park bench with the young lovers. We have taken a photo there
with everyone who has visited us.
Melli prepared dinner for us tonight and she made an
original casserole filled with fresh vegetables she bought at the local farmer’s
market.
Tomorrow we are going to the beach at Sanibel Island. Hard to believe it is February!!!
